Our Mission: PEPY's mission is to aid rural communities in improving their own standards of living, with a focus on increased access to quality education.
What We Do: Since our beginning in 2005, PEPY has funded the construction of two rural public schools, working in partnership with AAfC to provide buildings, toilets, and water pumps at government-run schools. At The PEPY Ride School in Chanleas Dai, Siem Reap Province, PEPY has been funding additional educational and environmental programs since 2005. The PEPY Friends School, in Stung Treng Province, opened in March of 2007 and is the first lower secondary school in the area.
At PEPY we continually strive to improve our programs to meet the needs of those we support. Though we are proud of the walls and classrooms we have funded, we recognize that classrooms are only as effective as the access that students have to them, and the learning which takes place inside. Moreover, we recognize that in order to make education a priority we must address the root causes of poverty and disease which keep students from receiving a quality education. One of the lessons we have learned is that in order to create positive and effective educational change, we must create holistic programs. More than simply providing uniforms, training teachers, or giving scholarships, our overall goal is to make education a priority in the eyes of students, teachers, and community members.
Our programs work in the 11 villages of Chanleas Dai Commune, aiming to 1) facilitate ACCESS to education and 2) increase the QUALITY of education each student receives. By taking on one community's development in all areas we hope to make a greater initial positive change, facilitating the necessary community support for further development.
