Fort Dauphin, October 1, 2006: A new gas station shop in Fort Dauphin has made an unprecedented move to supply non-expired food to residents. The Moplenty* Petrol Station, located off the main street, has stocked its shelves with foodstuffs that do not need to be eaten within the day. Canned foods are now printed with dates as late as 2008, and more perishable items, such as cheese and yogurt, can now be consumed freely and without fear of contamination. Residents have been heralding this progress as a major step towards them being recognized as legitimate consumers in Madagascar.
