I'm fired up on:

Cafe culture, independent media, farmers markets, trying new food, jogging in crisp morning air, listening to the CBC in good headphones while half in the bag, napping outside. swimming and dancing under the stars, preferably in a new country with a big jug of red wine and some kindred spirits in tow. Not just wanting to write but needing to write, even if its bad. Hell, especially if its bad.

Lately this is a very crucial question to me. I've been learning that the singer-songwriter can guide you anywhere, as long as you find your way to them on your own merits first- Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Beck, Joni Mitchell, Nina Simone, Tom Waits, Nick Cave, Nick Drake, PJ Harvey, Cat Power, St. Vincent, Regina Spektor, Devandra Banhart, Bruce Springsteen... Jazz or Jimi when feeling epic. The White Stripes when feeling particularly alive. Deerhoof when dancing, Pink Floyd when cooking, Radiohead for all the in-betweens.

Travel style:

excited to travel by myself- notebook, recorder, backpack, scarves, dresses, dove soap. forgetting to plan and asking the locals instead. knowing where my towel is.
