About me:
As a freelance hack I am always on the lookout for a story, more often than not I can be found ranting and shaking my ahead about the state of the English football team or my club Watford. Presently I am living in Colombia with a variety of aims. I need to get my head around the murky world of Colombian politics, show people that the whole country is not off-limits, and working tooth and nail to make a success of my guesthouse here in mompos - La Casa Amarilla

I have been living and working in Latin America for going on six years and have travelled and worked in every country in the Continent. I love it here!

Hey Rich,
I've read your article on doing the Inca Trail, and I found it very helpful, but was also wondering if you could give me some more in depth info. I'm going to be living in Machala, Ecuador, which is 2 hours from Peru, and at some point want to head down to Machu Piccu. Would you know how long it takes by bus to get down there from the border? How much would this adventure cost me (in USD if possible)? Do I need to have my own tents and sleeping bag? How do I get in touch with the company to make the arrangements and get the porters? Anything relevant like that would certainly help me a lot. Thanks.

Hey Richard, thanks for the comments. I'd really like to talk to you about Colombia and your meetings with the FARC. I'm writing a short fictional story that centers around twin brothres who are part of a Colombian paramilitary group and I'm trying to make it reasonably authentic (even though it's really a dark fantasy story). Not having been to Colombia, I'm having to rely on second-hand information, and I may have to change the setting altogether if I can't make it work, but any thoughts would help. Thanks!

Should you one day find yourself in the vast unofficial cemetery that makes up most of the state of Huila in southern Colombia and you will undoubtedly make your way to the environs of San Agustin, a town of little note but that it is friendly, clean and courteous and lies right on the doorstep of...

It's true, I am testing out some body armour for a Traverse piece - watch this space...all this after meeting with a Colombian congresswoman friend for lunch, then being shot, then - if I am unharmed - a meeting with a lady who spent several years in FARC captivity and who has written a book of her experiences.

Right, back in Bogota, trying to find an appartment and fight off the cold that somehow gets into my bones here. It is something about the wind that rolls down the mountain and the rain that falls to sodden my feet only when it is that I need to venture outside. I guess I am going to move uptown a bit...
